All quiet on the home front

Filed under: Amiad — stuff @ 11:28 am

Nothing much is happening around and about.  I suppose in regards to world events that is an understatement, but in my little world all is well.

Not wanting you all to rest on your laurels decided to introduce you to Monty.

A favour to ask of my German friends

Filed under: Uncategorized — stuff @ 6:48 pm

When I was in the States I bought a CD of some of the world’s greatest speeches and now I am hooked.  To my utter delight I stumbled upon a most impressive site where one can download books from an open source library.  Amazing.  Everything  my heart desires and then some.

I did notice, however, that there are many other languages there, German being one of them. I suddenly had this brilliant idea driving home today, to make a few CD’s for my mother in law. She is the 93 year old lady I mentioned once before and she is always complaining that she doesn’t find enough time anymore to read.  I asked her about “rereading” Schiller this evening (as I spotted him there) and she answered “why Schiller if I could reread Hauf”. Well Hauf is not there but wondered if either of you might be able to look at the site and see if there is something that springs out and just has to be “read”.

My thanks in advance.

Panoramas of Amiad

Filed under: Amiad — stuff @ 12:30 pm

What fun it is when you figure out how to do something.  Just found this program I can try for 14 days, so now I am taking pictures all over the place and splicing them together.

Panorama of the Tsuk

Filed under: Amiad — stuff @ 10:38 am

I had one happy dog this morning when I went traipsing to the other side of the perimeter fence to get the view of the Tsuk that you were referring to.

View from the old library

Filed under: Amiad — stuff @ 6:20 pm

A long time ago I said that if anyone had any spot they would really like to see I would rush off camera in hand and capture it.

I have a friend or two

Filed under: Amiad — stuff @ 9:43 am

In the last few posts I have shown you my friend, Sigal.  I have some very good people in my life and she is one of them.

One of her talents is painting and I keep promising her that one day I will find an excuse to put my favourites here on my blog.

I think I found that time…..

The new bridge to Safed

Filed under: Amiad — stuff @ 7:37 pm

When I first came to Israel in 1980, I was told that soon there would be a road to Safed that would go over that mountain.  Every so often, one would watch some activity on the “would be” road and rumours were rife about the problems of building a bridge over that wadi.  Every time I came home from the States I wondered why one always saw such amazing bridges, crossing whole ginormous lakes and we couldn’t get across that wadi.

And talking of roaming around in my hills….

A sad Kinneret (Sea of Galilee)

Filed under: Uncategorized — stuff @ 4:21 pm

We have not had really good rains for many a year and each year the Kinneret seems to be sadder and smaller.  I stopped on my way home today to take some pictures.

My hills here in the Galilee

Filed under: Amiad — stuff @ 6:48 pm

Got the idea to put up some pictures of the hills around Amiad from a comment to one of the posts.  I am sure that many of you used to walk around the same hills, and probably stopped at the same spots.

ann and I

These photos are over several years, and certainly while Annie was still alive.  She and I rambled around for hours not always getting very far.

A chaotic world

Filed under: Uncategorized — stuff @ 8:05 am

I speak to my friends and most say I am suffering from more than just a touch of paranoia in my old age.
